Legal & privacy
This page brings together our Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions and Cookie Policy. Fairweather ("we", "us") is an independent travel-information website operated from the Netherlands. By using the site you agree to the terms below.
1. Privacy Policy
Our approach
We keep data collection to a minimum. You can browse Fairweather without creating an account or giving us your name.
What we collect
When you use certain features, your browser makes requests to third-party services: current temperatures come from Open-Meteo, and live exchange rates from open.er-api.com. Those requests necessarily include your device's IP address, which those providers process under their own privacy terms. If you consent to analytics and advertising cookies, our providers may also collect standard usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location and device type.
Why we process it (legal basis)
We rely on legitimate interest to run and secure the site (for strictly necessary functions), and on your consent for anything involving analytics or advertising, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Dutch implementing law (UAVG).
Advertising and affiliates
We plan to show ads through networks such as Google AdSense and to include affiliate links (for example to Booking.com or Civitatis). When active and with your consent, these partners may set cookies and process data to show and measure ads. If you buy through an affiliate link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Data retention & transfers
We do not maintain our own database of personal data. Any data handled by our third-party providers is kept and, where applicable, transferred internationally under their respective policies and safeguards.
2. Terms & Conditions
Purpose of the site
Fairweather offers general travel and weather guidance to help you decide where and when to travel. Temperatures, rainfall figures, costs, flight estimates and safety notes are indicative averages and personal opinion, not guarantees.
No warranty
We work to keep the information accurate and current, but we make no warranty that it is complete, error-free or up to date. Weather, prices and local conditions change. Always confirm essential details — visas, health requirements, official travel advice and safety — with authoritative sources before you travel.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site or any third-party site we link to.
External links
Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, products or practices.
Intellectual property
The site's text, design and original content belong to Fairweather and may not be reproduced without permission. Map geometry is derived from public-domain Natural Earth data.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Dutch law, and any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the competent courts of the Netherlands.
3. Cookie Policy
What cookies are
Cookies are small files stored on your device that help a website function and remember your choices. Similar technologies (such as local storage) are covered by this policy too.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the site to work — for example remembering your cookie choice and language. They do not need consent and cannot be switched off.
Analytics & advertising cookies
With your consent, these help us understand how the site is used and allow partners such as Google AdSense to show and measure ads. They are only set after you accept them in the cookie banner.
Your choice
When you first visit from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a consent message lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies before any advertising or analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy options link, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.
How consent is managed
Consent is collected through Google's certified Consent Management Platform (part of Google's Privacy & messaging tools), which meets the EU requirements for serving ads. If you reject non-essential cookies, no analytics or advertising cookies are set and the site keeps working normally.
